WHY do Nigerians complain endlessly and whisper very loudly amongst themselves about their pitiable lot and condition brought about by corruption, mismanagement and outright disdain that the so-called politicians have for the citizens, yet NEVER actually do ANYTHING about confronting these Poli-TRICK-cians and making a stand for good? Instead they largely go about seeking handouts and song-praising these same people! Are Nigerians cowardly by nature, averse to confrontation regardless of personal cost or actually really satisfied with their lot and condition?

Everyday a Topic (WHY of The Day) is published for debate and commentary by the users of the site. It is our dream that egetwhy.com becomes the hotbed for discussions and debates on African political, socio-political and current affairs issues which will hopefully serve as a vehicle for the harvesting of ideas and a driver for much needed and overdue change in Nigeria, the West African sub region and the African continent in general.

The name, “egetwhy” is from a west African pidgin slang, “e get why” which when used rhetorically, asks a question: WHAT IS THE REASON WHY?”

Below is a brief guide to how the site is organized.

The "WHY" OF THE DAY:

On egetwhy.com, everyday, we ask the reason why a particular thing/occurrence is happening or is the way it is. We then leave that open to you our users to tell us why it is so in your opinion. Hence the “WHY” of the day.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE "WHY" OF THE DAY:

Everyday there is a new WHY asked on the site. There are 3 ways of making your contribution. By normal Text, video or audio. It is also possible to upload document files (e.g. Text and pictures or images) in support of your contribution. Any registered user can contribute their opinions to the topic of discussion that day. You can contribute to the WHY of the day HERE

HOW TO VIEW A CONTRIBUTORS HISTORY

Once you are logged in, you can view all the contributions by a particular user by clicking on their username. This will open up further options to enable you view their contribution history.

Clicking on View User Profile" will show you the users history to include all their contributions, their votes and the corresponding dates

A user can also view all Past "WHY's" and navigate from there to view all the historical data associated with that WHY.

To acess this area of the site, go to "My ACCOUNT" and select PAST WINNERS or PAST WHY's.

HOW TO VOTE FOR A WHY OF THE DAY CONTRIBUTOR

Users of the site can (and are encouraged to) vote for the best contribution (in their opinion) to the WHY of the day.

The votes are automatically collated by the site Robot, the winner is instantly notified and paid the sum of $10 or its equivalent.

A user cannot vote for themselves and onlyONE vote per day is allowed each user.

Only a registered and logged in user can vote.

You can logon on by clicking on Logon on the top right hand corner of the Homepage. Once you are logged in you can view the contributions for the day by going to the WHY article of the Day and clicking on “more” tab or “View All” or “Slide Show” tabs to view all the contributions. Once you have identified the contribution you want to vote for, click on "Vote". This is designed to prevent abuse. Every day at midnight our intelligent site robot collates the votes received and instantly notifies the winner for payout formalities.

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR WINNERS PRIZE

Every night at 12 midnight, the site robot collates the Votes and automatically selects the winner, who will be the contributor with the highest number of votes.

The winner instantly gets an email notification to their registered email address with a link and instructions on how to advise us on their payment details.

The prize money will be paid out same day as we receive the requisite corordinates direct into the beneficiary's account.

HOW TO USE THE DISCUSSION FORUMS

Aside from the contributions to the WHY of the day that users can make, egetwhy.com users can also initiate or join any live discussions on any topics they wish and discuss in real time with other users of the site.

The site can handle a large amount of simulataneous discussion threads at the same time.

This area of the site is halfway down on the left hand side of the Homepage and can be accessed by going to CHAT FORUMS

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE A WHY

Users are encouraged to contribute possible WHY’s (Topics for discussion) on egetwhy.com.

For legal reasons though we will not automatically publish these user WHY contributions, but will have to be vetted by our legal team first, and if found suitable and worthy, we will normally publish it at the earliest opportunity.

Users who eventually have their WHY of the day published will get a prize of $5

HOW TO USE THE VOTE ANALYSER

The Vote Analyser is a rather useful tool that allows a user see the voting paterns in real time as they occur.

Hovering your mouse over the Vote Analyser graph bars will display the names of the Top 8 Leading Contributors for the day

Clicking on the Vote Analyser Tab will open the Graph up in 3D and allow access to other Voting Statistics you may wish to see.

HOW TO USE THE "SEARCH" BOX

A User is able to search for archived Contributions either by Contributors Name or unique Contribution number if known by entering it into the Search Box and hitting SEARCH.

HOW TO ACCESS THE NEWS

Every 120 seconds on egetwhy.com, up-to-the-minute news is pulled from over 100 top sources for news including the BBC, CNN, YahooNews, Reuters, AllAfrica.com, and The Sun just to name a few.

To access the news area you can click on the revolving Headlines at the top part of the Homepage directly underneath the WHY of The Day box, or from the Main News Menu which is split into categories Nigeria/Africa/World and Sports (For ONLY Sports news) & Football (For ONLY Football news) . On the Home page, go to the "News" menu in the left column and click on "Nigeria" or "Africa" (Africa will give you a further filtered menu of all the african countries to chose from, by country specific news), or click on "World" for the latest world news.

HOW TO SEND FREE SMS TEXT MESSAGES

As a courtesy to our users, we have made available, 500-1000 FREE Text messages to our users on a First-Come-First-Served Basis. Please see the SMS TEXT area for how many Free texts are available daily.

To send a text message, click on the "Send Free SMS" Tab on the left hand side of the Homepage and follow the instructions.

HOW TO RETRIEVE LOST PASSWORDS / USERNAMES

You can retrieve a lost password or and Username from the Login screen by clicking the Retrieve Password link and entering your username or email address in the "Retrieve Username/Password" link provided in the Login area.

You can access this area by clicking on the "LOGIN" button on the top right hand corner of our Homepage.

Your username/password will be sent to the email address you have provided on registration.

Please note that this may sometimes take up to ten minutes to arrive on occassion.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR ACCOUNT

To manage your account, click on "My Account" Tab at the top of the Homepage and select "Change Details".

In this area you will be able to amend your email address, Password and pictures associated with your account if any.

USAGE POLICY

This is a serious forum though we have made every effort to make your experience at egetwhy.com as fun and relaxed as possible.

Whilst we encourage our users to air their unbridled views, we also expect that this will be done with sensitivity to others and decorum. Therefore any inappropriate materials or postings will be deleted and the user may be barred from using the site in future.
